Hey everyone! Dr. Erin here with a few thoughts on talking about our culture of burnout.
There’s a lot I like about this article, but it’s missing one big piece of the #burnout puzzle.
We can’t talk about burnout – recognizing it, mitigating it, preventing it – if we don’t start first with understanding our culture of burnout.
What does that mean?
Basically, America has a culture of burnout. One that prioritizes productivity, work, and hustle, over health, well-being, and rest.
I like this article because it recognizes that there can be systemic issues in an organization that contribute to employee burnout.
But it doesn’t go far enough. The systemic problems caused by burnout are in every organization, every workplace, every home, because they are fundamental to how we understand work and success in America.
This article goes farther than most I’ve read recently on burnout, but if you want to get the full picture on burnout, including its cultural origins, you’ve got to read our book.
“The Culture of Burnout” is available now to pre-order on Kindle and will be available in paperback on October 3.
