We all know the old adage, “Practice what you preach.”
We also know that it’s one of the harder things to ever put into practice.
Last November, Kristen and I did exactly that by taking our first non-work related trip together since June 2018.
In our book, “The Culture of Burnout” we preach (teach) about our concept of The 4 R’s and the necessity of practicing them to mitigate and prevent burnout.
While walking 27 miles in 4 days in not what anyone would call restful, we definitely reconnected, realigned, and rejuvenated ourselves and our friendship.
We’ve been planning a trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in celebration of our 40th birthdays for 5 odd years and even though we are busier than ever, we made this commitment to ourselves both for our friendship and our business.
We spent 4 days being Disney nerds, and Star Wars nerds, and Harry Potter nerds. We embraced joy and wonder and adventure.
We didn’t check our emails and we didn’t talk about work.
It’s hard to carve out time in our lives for real and meaningful breaks. But take it from two SUPER busy ladies who did just that – it’s possible and it’s worth it. We proved to ourselves that we can in fact “practice what you preach.”
