Millennials are the largest generation in the workforce – we’re about 35% right now, and rapidly expanding. Experts expect that to be up to 75% by 2025.
Wow, that’s a number.
And yet, I’m still getting complaints about Millennials like we’re spring chickens with no work ethic.
Research and anecdotal evidence show that the work ethic is no less than previous generations – in fact, about 26% of Millennials have more than one job – but the views on work have.
First thing that pops to mind is that blind loyalty to an organization is a thing of the past; companies have to earn and keep the trust of their employees as much as employees have to do the same for management.
I think we need to stop confusing “work ethic” with “working the same way I have”. If we can, we can also have richer conversations about what work can really look like and maybe employ some transformative thinking around the very nature of work.
Millennials are the largest generation in the workforce, and we can expect more changes as they grow.
(Oh, and I got those stats from here: https://lnkd.in/ghZwuR6t.)
