The True Origins of America's Burnout Culture

The American Dream is the product of 16th century theology. No, I’m not kidding. I want to spend a few minutes with you talking about the true origins of America’s burnout culture.

As Americans, we believe three core things about work:
💡 you are only a good person if you work really hard
💡 you can only work hard if you do it all alone
💡 sleep is for when you are dead

And all these ideas came from a system of thought fermented in the 1600s.

Maybe we don’t want to be held captive by that system any longer? Especially since it leads to dysfunction, disappointment, disillusionment, and burnout.

There is another way. Once we know the origins of America’s burnout culture, we can work on making real change.
