why do pronouns matter?

Great question - and we get it all the time in our work as empathy educators.

We know (most) people are fundamentally good -- they don't want to cause offense or harm others.

We're in the midst of a period of rapid growth in how we understand the broad spectrums of humanity. From gender and sexuality, to giving space to marginalized and oppressed groups, global society is adopting new words and phrases all the time.

With all this in mind, we've crafted our workshop to help us all unpack these changes in a way that doesn't use shame or guilt as a motivator.

As humans evolve, so does language. As humans across all spectrums evolve their thinking and their language, it is incumbent upon us all to listen, learn, and respect that evolution. This holds especially true when it comes to historically marginalized people groups and voices, who, for too long have not been given time and space to be heard and to combat the words and phrases that do not represent and even offend them.
